Tantus Intermediate Strap On Harness Review

It isn’t often that I get the opportunity to treat myself to a new sex toy, but when Lovehoney recently had a ‘20% off’ offer, I knew the first thing I had to purchase was the Tantus Intermediate Strap On Harness. My older (cheaper) harness was not the most comfortable harness and pegging was becoming more common in our bedroom, so I knew it was time for an upgrade, and boy am I glad I went for this harness.

The Harness:

Dimensions:

I personally measure the waist strap to be able to fit up to a 65 inch waist, and the leg straps to fit up to 40 inches at most. Although it does say up to a 60 inch waist on the website, so I would err on the side of caution and say 60 inches. There is no size restriction for slimmer people, as it will keep on tightening until small enough to fit the tiniest of folks. The front panel (Available in black or purple) measures 6.5 inches in width and 4.5 inches in height. The front panel comes with a little pocket, to insert the bullet vibrator that also comes with this set. This is optional and the bullet can be left out if you do not wish to use it.

Getting it on:

The Tantus harness can be a little fiddly to get into. Mainly because the straps/clips have a habit of slipping out from the front panel as you step into it, and trying to grab onto them while pulling the harness on requires 3 hands. I found the best method was to simply let the straps  fall from the front panel and dangle between your legs while you tighten the waist straps first. Once the waist strap is tightened, you can begin to thread the other straps back up between your legs and through the holes in the front panel. Doing it this way ensures you avoid any uncomfortable twists in the straps.

Once the harness is in place, you then attach one of the O-rings to the 4 clips that should now be at the front of the panel. (Make sure you choose the right size O-ring for each dildo.) Once the ring is clipped securely in place, pull it forward and slide your chosen dildo through the ring. It does sometimes take a small amount of jiggling and a little pressure to pop the dildo through. Once the dildo is in place, tighten up the straps until the harness is comfortable and secure, but not too tight, or the poppers can ping undone and slide off the o-ring, which is a frustrating. You are now ready to play.

The Harness In Use:

The first thing to impress me when I first started using the Tantus Intermediate Harness was that it felt very comfortable. My old harness had straps that came up between my legs and would sit between my bum cheeks, rubbing across my vagina and anus during use. The Tantus harness, however, straps up around the back of your thighs, sitting just below your bum cheeks and following your bikini line as they move around the front. With the Tantus harness, I no longer suffer rubbing, or chafing sensations across my most sensitive parts during use. Any pulling, or pressure focus around the back of my thighs instead, which sure beats feeling those sensations across my genitals. Another great advantage to this design is that during wear, you still have full access to your genitals. I could play with myself, even use some of my favourite dildos and my beloved We Vibe Tango, at the same time as I was strapped up and pegging my partner. This was a huge bonus for me. I could indulge in mutual pleasure and actually enjoy it comfortably while still using the harness. Unfortunately this doesn’t apply for male users. The Tantus harness has clearly been designed most efficiently for female users and although my male partner could still comfortably wear and use the harness (Even with an erection) his penis was still inaccessible during use and this is not the kind of harness where he could pop it out through a gap somewhere. On top of this, his erection pushed at the harness, causing the dildo to shoot off at an angle, which was pretty funny. He still managed though.

I really like the padded, velvety soft, front panel. It sits comfortably and securely against the pubic bone, and with the straps tightened, the panel stays in place, not pulling away from the body, or sliding up and down, even during intense thrusting. This gave me a much better feeling of control, when compared to my old harness. The slight padding further increases your comfort levels, allowing you to build up to a decent, speedy thrust without leaving you feeling battered and bruised in the pubic region after (Of course, the wide, flat, flared bases on each of the Tantus Silk dildos also helps with that). If you insert the bullet vibrator into the pocket you will feel some vibration travel down your pubic bone, which is a tease but not really mind blowing, and the person being pegged with feel some light, residual vibration travelling throughout the dildo. For us however, these sensations were not mind blowing enough to put up with the slight discomfort of the bullet banging into my pubic bone as I thrust hard, or as he sat down on me, so I often leave it out, using it occasionally for direct clitoral stimulation or to tease his penis with while he rides me. I find this works much better for us.

The Dildos In Use:

The Tantus Intermediate Harness comes with two dildos. These dildos can be bought separately and are part of the “Silk” range of Tantus dildos. The small one measures a petite 3.25 inches in circumference (Girth) around the largest portion and has 5 inches of insertable length. The Large dildo measures 4.75 inches in circumference (Girth) around the largest portion, and has just over 6 inches in insertable length, making this one ideal for more intermediate to advanced anal players, or for vaginal penetration. Both dildos will have a slightly shorter insertable length when strapped into the harness, because the o-ring takes up a small (0.2 inch approx.) amount of space at the base.

I personally found both of these dildos to be perfect for our intermediate level of play. The small one is not intimidating and it functioned well as a great warm up dildo before attempting the larger one, as well as being ideal for sessions where we didn’t want to push our limits and just wanted a more gentle, relaxing session. The larger one came into its own during more intense sessions, where we wanted to feel fuller, or more stretched.

Both of these dildos are made from a texture free, shiny silicone, which makes them most suitable, in my opinion, for anal sex (Especially for beginners to intermediates). The lack of texture and the reduced drag from the shiny silicone made for a much more enjoyable, gentle anal toy. These dildos are simply much easier to insert and build up a thrusting rhythm with, unlike the more textured, matte silicone dildos we own, that feel too intense to really use as a thrusting anal toy at our level. I would say they are almost perfect. The only problem we came across was in the length of the large dildo. My partner found that, when fully inserted, he felt uncomfortable prodding sensations internally. To be fair, I also have the same issue when using Tantus dildos vaginally. The last inch is almost always impossible for me to take. This was not a huge issue though, I just had to avoid pounding away with the large.

We both very much enjoy getting pegged using this strap on harness but I must admit, I tend to switch out these dildos and grab for my Tantus Cush when I fancy feeling fuller, or my BS is Nice Vaca when I fancy some intense g-spot play while he penetrates me vaginally. ( Although the lack of texture and shiny silicone feels perfect for anal, I found it slightly lacking when it came to vaginal penetration (I prefer texture for that) In saying that, the large Tantus Silk can coax g-spot orgasms from me quite easily, but I do prefer a dildo with more of a curve, or at least some more texture to really blow my mind. Luckily, quite a few of my dildos fit into this harness. Even my Anthro Dragon,  with its unusual shape and balls at the base. I was impressed. You can buy different sized o-rings to strap on any of your favourite dildos, making this harness super versatile.

Summary:

I am over the moon with the Tantus Intermediate Harness and I would certainly recommend it to others, especially those looking for a good quality harness that doesn’t cost a fortune and that can be extremely versatile, as well as super comfortable. It only has one little niggle, that being that the poppers holding the o-ring and dildo in place, can sometimes ping undone, especially if you over tighten the harness. This is rare though and aside from this issue, it is a perfect, intermediate, strap on harness.
